Expired Creativity

I used to be good at this sort of thing, Taking the fire that blossomed in my chest, And turning it into words, Into stories, Into poetry, Into something meaningful. But that fire died out years ago, Now nothing more than cold charcoal. My creativity a charred pile of ash, Where something great once burned bright, And someone useful once stood. I feel as if the broken part of me, That could once take rage and agony, Mixed with love and empathy, Entwine it with betrayal and unity, And forge some desperate soliloquy, Was stolen by my time in university. It was torn out of me by bureaucracy, And so my soul began to atrophy. I became a walking fallacy, A false idol of who I used to be. The words refused to form freely, And I was left alone in the dark with me.

It's been so long since I did it regularly, That some of you might not even know, That I used to write an awful lot of poetry. Because it's been over 600 days since my last soliloquy, I now struggle to make even a simple series of words flow, And the ease at which I once constructed structured rhymes, Is now nothing but a bittersweet, distant memory. There is no guilt in the pleasure, That a favourite book brings. For they are for reading, And re-reading, And re-reading again. Their spines may crack and bend, Under the weight of a thousand turned pages, Stained with tears and tea and drenched in love. It's cover may rip and the pages may tear, But it will still be read again, And again, And again. They will tell you many things of love, And but a few of them will be true. False notions and ideas will push and shove, But only a handful will apply to you. It's Been A While!

Hello everyone who's still out there! It's been a while since I've made a journal, going through my final year of school has that effect on my free time, however I have still managed to keep a steady upload of poetry going over time. But yeah, my last journal was September, and if you've read any of my poetry you'll probably have an idea of how life has been for me. It's certainly had it's ups and downs, a lot of difficult moments, but I have survived. I've been writing a lot of poetry for the folio I've been working on, and so over the next month I should be putting a lot of it up here, possibly every day even! We'll see how it goes. Yo

For many years I have held the weight of many terrible secrets. Endured so much pain, both mine and that of dozens of others. I have given so much advice throughout the years, helped people whenever I could. But if I have one main shortcoming, it is my inability to help myself. I simply cannot take my own advice. I see all the problems that await my future, all the absences of planning and flaws in everything else. I give too much to others and ask even more of myself. I worry. For myself.
